The Learning and Development Manager will lead the daily operation and growth of our Learning and Development department and our learning ecosystem that develops leaders, deepens technical expertise, sharpens project delivery, elevates safety, and enriches the client experience. This includes developing modern learning programs, mentoring a small team, training leaders and employees, partnering with key outside providers on leadership and culture initiatives, and evolving our systems so learning scales with the firm. You will work in the system by delivering high quality training, building relationships, and collaborating with key partners, and on the system by designing processes, practices, and tools that make our learning programs even more innovative, scalable, and measurable.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and mentors a growing Learning and Development team. Set clear goals and provide direction, coaching, and feedback.
  • Owns the end-to-end learning roadmap for key capability areas. Examples include onboarding, leadership development, technical skills, project management, safety and compliance.
  • Plans and runs strategic learning projects from start to finish. Define scope, timeline, roles, and success measures.
  • Identifies and assesses learning needs, then design, develop, plan, deliver, and evaluate programs end to end.
  • Collaborates with internal partners and outside providers to design and deliver high impact people development programs using modern modalities for a growing workforce. Examples include live sessions, virtual training, microlearning, communities of practice, hands on simulations, peer teaching, and practical job aids.
  • Works with key outside partners on other essential culture and people initiatives. Evaluate when to contract with outside partners to meet goals. Manage partner relationships and contracts.
  • Crafts clear communications that increase visibility and participation in learning.
  • Stays current on new methods and tools and introduces approaches that improve the effectiveness of learning and facilitation.
  • Analyzes program effectiveness. Provide reports and recommendations to leadership and adjusts based on data and feedback.
  • Manages training budgets and forecasts spend.
  • Improves LMS use and impact and creates simple guidelines and workflows, so content stays current and easy to find.
  • Collaborates with leaders to ensure quality and performance metrics are met during and after training.
  • Partners with our Instructional Designer and subject matter experts to keep content accurate and impactful.
  • Builds strong working relationships with business leaders, HR, Safety, Technical Practice leaders, and other colleagues to support key initiatives.
  • Creates feedback loops and dashboards that connect learning to business outcomes such as safety, quality, and talent metrics.
  • Champions a measured, methodical approach to learning strategy.
  • Availability for some travel for key meetings, launches, facilitation, and workshops.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Learning and Development program management, including at least 5-6 years leading people or managing a learning team.
  • Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Organizational Psychology, Management or other related area.
  • Proven people leader who coaches and develops others and holds accountability for delivery.
  • Strong planner and executor who scopes work, sets timelines, manages risks, and meets outcomes.
  • Skilled trainer for diverse audiences, with expertise in modern modalities.
  • Experience assessing and improving learning systems and data.
  • Excellent communicator who builds trust quickly, listens actively, tailors messages to the audience, and aligns expectations.
  • Collaborative problem solver who brings the right voices to the table and navigates diverse perspectives with care.
  • Strategic and practical, able to turn big ideas into clear roadmaps and measurable programs.
  • Curious and current on industry best practices and learning technologies.
  • Able to manage learning programs across multiple time zones.
  • Works both in the system and on the system, delivering training and building the processes and tools that scale it.
  • Long term commitment with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Sound judgment with a measured, test and learn approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in civil engineering, construction, utilities, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced facilitation skills to support senior level leaders or teams.
  • Certifications such as coaching, strengths or personality assessments, instructional design, or project management.

Pay Range

An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
