We are seeking an Entry Level Structural Engineer to help with sustainable, local, water and wastewater facility design. Responsibilities

  • Performs structural engineering design under the direction and supervision of experienced structural engineers
  • Performs basic structural engineering design tasks to provide analysis and detailing for preparation of plans and specifications
  • Works with CADD technicians to develop presentation of structural designs
  • Prepares quantity take-offs for use in estimating construction costs for the structural portion of projects
  • Reviews construction submittals for structural items
  • Researches technical topics as directed by project structural engineers
  • Assists in improvement of structural design standards, specifications, and typical details
  • Plans tasks and activities for effective production and monitors time and completeness against plan
  • Reviews work for discrepancies or inconsistencies
  • Tracks details of work to discuss and resolve
  • Develops and improves technical knowledge and skills
  • Maintains professionalism in relationships with other office and team members
  • Plans what needs to be communicated and how to present the information effectively
  • Seeks out company and client technical standards and implements them on projects
  • Constructively builds and maintains relationships with others on the project design team
  • Travel required when requested
  • Makes site visits to observe during construction and operation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with Structural Emphasis from an ABET accredited structural engineering program
  • 0-4 years experience in structural engineering
  • Basic and advanced engineering coursework in:
    • Statics, Dynamics, and Mechanics of Materials
    • Structural analysis for building structures including manual and computer methods
    • Structural design and detailing using reinforced concrete, steel, and masonry
  • Engineer-in-Training Certification
  • Basic knowledge of Structural design codes and standards including:
    • International Building Code (including seismic design and detailing provisions)
    • Design Loads: ASCE 7
    • Concrete: ACI 318
    • Masonry: ACI 530
    • Steel: AISC Steel Construction Manual - 13th Edition; AISC Seismic Design Manual
  • Understanding of geotechnical issues and foundation design
  • Ability to present structural design and detailing in construction documents
  • Ability to read and interpret basic project construction drawings
  • Ability to use structural analysis and design programs using prismatic frame members and finite elements
  • Capable of breaking a task into one or more component parts and sequencing those parts effectively
  • General awareness of need for practicality and constructability of design solutions
  • General awareness of the scope, schedule and budget assigned for engineering tasks
  • Ability to selected design approach through completion of analysis and detailing
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills 
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel

Pay Range

$72,000 to $80,000 annually. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
